With the Barracuda Control Center, you can check the health of all connected devices, run reports that are generated by gathering data from all the devices, and assign roles with varied permissions to different types of users. The powerful Web interface of the Barracuda Control Center provides for convenient configuration and management of multiple Barracuda Networks device settings, while also providing a view of each device Web interface for individual configuration or reporting. No need to install software or deploy hardware. Key statistics can be viewed by device type at a glance on the Status page of the Web interface with the ability to drill down for more detail into the individual Web interface for each connected device. Vulnerability Disclosure Timeline: ================================== 2018-07-24: Public Disclosure (Vulnerability Laboratory) Discovery Status: ================= Published Affected Product(s): ==================== Barracuda Networks Product: Cloud Control Center 3.1.0.914 Exploitation Technique: ======================= Remote Severity Level: =============== Medium Authentication Type: ==================== Restricted Authentication (Guest Privileges) User Interaction: ================= Low User Interaction Disclosure Type: ================ Responsible Disclosure Technical Details & Description: ================================ A persistent input validation web vulnerability has been discovered in the official Barracuda Networks Cloud Control Center Application v3.0.04.015. Local low privileged user accounts are able to inject own malicious script codes on the application-side of the vulnerable service module. The vulnerability is located in the `picture url link` value of the `Erweitere (Advanced) Erscheinungsbild` module. The url link will be connected to the uploaded image. The script code will execution occurs in the appliance application context after an users account has clicked the uploaded picture When exploited by an authenticated user, the identified vulnerabilities result in persistent session hijacking, persistent phishing, access to cloud/intranet available servers/services, external (persistent) redirect to malware and persistent module context manipulation. The attack vector is persistent and the request method to inject own script codes is POST. The exploitation of the persistent input validation web vulnerability requires medium user inter action and a privileged application user account. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability results in session hijacking, persistent phishing, persistent external redirects to malicious source and persistent manipulation of affected or connected module context. Request Method(s): [+] POST Vulnerable Module(s): [+] Erweitere (Advanced) - Erscheinungsbild Vulnerable Function(s): [+] Erscheinungsbild Vulnerable Parameter(s): [+] picture url link (Bild Link Adresse) Proof of Concept (PoC): ======================= The vulnerability can be exploited by remote attackers with low privileged application user account and medium required user interaction. For security demonstration or to reproduce the security vulnerability follow the provided information and steps below to continue. <= [EXECUTES PERSISTENT INJECTED LINK ADRESS as SCRIPT CODE!]
Solution - Fix & Patch: ======================= The vulnerability can be patched by a parse and encode of the vulnerable `Picture Link Adresse` input fields. Encode also the output value in the main web modules context. Restrict the input and disallow special chars to prevent further script code inseration attacks. The vulnerability was already reported in 2016. The issue was fixed during 2017 Q1- Q4. The disclosure process took about 8 month. Security Risk: ============== The security risk of the persistent input validation vulnerability in the web-application module is estimated as medium.
